Virtual Walk to End ALS Walk June 19th

The Thompson Valley Rock Club has a member, of long standing, living with ALS. Jim

was a great contributor to our club over the years and came to many of our meetings,

even though it was not an easy task to get his huge wheelchair in and out of vehicles.

His sense of humor and his uplifting attitude inspire anyone who spent time with him.

Perhaps after the COVID lock down some of us could visit him at the Hamlets again.

For the last two years I have asked that the Thompson Valley Rock Club walk in honour of Jim and raise funds at the Walk to End ALS.

     What is the Walk to End ALS (copied from ALSBC.CA)

“The largest volunteer-led fundraiser for ALS Societies across Canada, the Walk to End ALS"  is a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate hope for a future without ALS, honour those we have loved and lost, and show support for the 3,000 Canadians and their families living with the disease. Your fundraising efforts and generous donations support the best ALS research in the country, (40% of proceeds) and enable ALS Societies to provide community-based support, (60% of proceeds) to people and families living with the disease.

      In 2021, Walks across the country will be taking place virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Although we can’t walk together, we’re all in this together. Because ALS doesn’t stop, and neither will we.”

      In 2019, our club entered a team and walked together and raised $1000.00.

 In 2020, two of us walked even though there wasn’t a physical walk or registration.

We wore our TVRC shirts and enjoyed the morning. The TVRC team raised $ 1200.00.

I hope to increase that amount this year. In the last 2 years I have become very aware of what the ALS Society of BC does for people living with ALS. The ALS Society supports patients, their families and the caregivers making sure that the best quality of life is possible. As well as research for finding the cause of, and a cure for ALS.
